The second in a series of four books, this text aims to broaden awareness of the variety of contemporary rural and urban environments in the world and to deepen understanding of their strengths and weaknesses. It considers issues such as population growth and urbanization, rural land management systems, current debates over policy for the British countryside and contrasting problems of First and Third World cities.
