This book is divided into ten units, each consisting of two or more chapters. The first is an introductory unit that deals with the physical features of the earth and gives the necessary climatological background. It includes, too, a discussion of the importance of maps and a detailed and a detailed explanation of how to read and use them. The next eight are regional units dealing Western Europe, Russia and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, Africa south of the Sahara, the Far East, Australia and the Pacific World, Latin America, and the United States and Canada. In each unit individual nations as well as the region as a whole are discussed. The last unit, “The Interdependence of Nations,” deals with world trade, conservation, and underdeveloped areas. The authors of World Geography today conscious of the vital role of geography as a foundation for developing civic competence have sought to present significant geographic principles in the most interesting and meaningful way possible with thought provoking ideas for oral and written reports.
