This paper considers the potential displacement effects that may arise from the introduction of crime prevention measures designed to reduce electronic crime and how best to guard against them. The paper discusses the possible application to electronic crime of the following kinds of displacement: spatial displacement; temporal displacement; target displacement; tactical displacement; offence displacement; and perpetrator displacement, and presents a table summarising the displacement possibilities of particular situational electronic crime prevention measures. The policy implications for responding to these potential displacement risks are also discussed.
