The Verrall-Collin collection of some 30,000 specimens of two-winged flies (Diptera) was presented to the Hope Entomological Collections of the Oxford University Museum in 1967. It is the single most important private collection in Britain, and contains a more complete representation of British flies than does the Natural History Museum in London. Within the collection are 550 fly species which were described by Verrall and Collin for the first time; reference to these original 'type specimens' is vital for taxonomic studies of flies. This book provides a detailed catalog of all the species described by Verrall and Collin, with associated biographical and historical information. Because of the significance of this collection, it is a must for university libraries, museums with entomological collections, and scientists studying Diptera.
