Whilst there is growing evidence suggesting that, in general, work-related stress comes with significant financial costs, data showing the actual nature of the financial burden of work-related stress and psychosocial hazards for employers and societies remains limited. The purpose of this project was to conduct a literature review on the financial burden of work-related stress and psychosocial risk at work at societal, sectoral, organisational and individual levels. Although the review looked at the methodologies employed to calculate the costs, it does not provide a deeper economic analysis. 1 The aim was to collect the available data, and to explore and discuss the complexity of the issue, identifying the existing gaps. The information included in the report is based on data published in the scientific and grey literature. The sources used included: - academic literaature (i.e. searching academic databases and conference presentations) - grey literature (i.e. Google/Google Scholar)- information from reputable organisations (e.g. the International Labour Organization (ILO), World Health Organization (WHO), national OSH institutions, /labour inspections, etc.).
