This is one of a series of texts describing the experimental methods needed for the preparation of chemicals. The authors of these chapters share their experiences with chemical reactions to provide background information and invaluable protocol for the synthesis of alkenes. Included are areview of old and new methods for preparing alkenes, easy-to-follow "recipes" that can be used at the bench, references to many examples from the most recent literature, and particular attention to controlling the geometry of alkene synthesis.
