The book focuses on machine level language, that above the hardware level and below the operating system level. It provides a survey of computers from 1946 the end of the 1970s. It is intended for students of conmputing (with problem sets at the end of the chapters) and those interested computer design and machine-language programming. It includes a bibliography and subject index. The survey covers the DG Nova, DEC PDP-8, IBM 360 to 370 series in detail.
