This report covers the administration of the 36th federal general election held on June 2, 1997, with a review of changes that have taken place in the electoral system since the last general election. Recommendations for improvements are also made. Sections of the report describe the following: the National Register of Electors project; other changes in the electoral system; new developments at Elections Canada; the previous enumeration; and the 36th general election itself, including ballots, preparation of voter lists, advance polls, revisions, and polling day activity. Appendices include preliminary election statistics.
