This book is for the frustrated managers, leaders and business owners who can't seem to motivate their people, no matter what they do, try, or implement. The executives who feel like they are providing great jobs and competitive pay but aren't getting highly motivated and committed employees in return. The leaders who feel like their staff members are checked out most of the work day, spending far too much time on their phones, disengaged and underperforming. I used to be one of these managers, convinced that my unattained goals and revenues meant that I had clearly made the wrong hiring choices. Sometimes, I had made the wrong hiring decision. However, I ultimately realized that my company didn't necessarily have a people problem - we had a significant cultural disconnect where leadership and staff simply weren't speaking the same motivational language. Our inability to find and leverage common ground did more than impact our profit margins (although trust me, it did that too); the cultural communication gap between staff and leadership meant that even our top performers weren't working at their full potential, often leaving our company for another company better suited to help them grow and develop. Adjusting my approach, becoming fluent in my employees' unique motivational language, changed everything.
