This book offers a review of key concepts of contemporary semiotics through the analysis of six short stories from *Primeiras Estórias* by Guimarães Rosa. It shows that, among the qualities of this Brazilian writer, one may count that of creating a musical model of comprehension of the affective and intelectual components that direct the human spirit.
