This book introduces the concepts and potential of protein engineering in relation to plant systems and gives an account of current research in this topical field. As a new and exciting field of research, plant engineering has, until recently, only been applied to model systems of microbial and animal origins. Developments in this area, formerly limited to microbiological organisms, are leading to important developments in the food and feed industry, in crop protection and the manufacture of novel protein products.
