Roosa (a past president of the Association of Energy Engineers and chair of the Certified Sustainable Development Professional Board) introduces the basic concepts, policies, and issues surrounding sustainable development. He describes the development of the idea; examines the key environmental issues connected to the concept; describes recent development in sustainable buildings and related building policies; and discusses energy conservation, renewable energy, and other technology solutions. He also discusses applications of sustainable development in the corporate world and by local governments and describes urban planning mechanisms and measurement methodologies.
