In recent years, advances have been made in measuring the progress toward sustainable development and in applying valuation techniques in developed and developing countries. This publication looks at the concept of environmental values from an economic perspective and gives an overview of valuation methods aimed at quantifying these values in monetary terms. It also attempts to identify a strategy for integrating environmental damages into natural disaster impact assessment.
