More than 200 illustrations, combined with letters Nelson wrote from Portsmouth itself and on board ship from the anchorages of Spithead and St Helen's, enable the reader to catch a glimpse of all the places that were familiar to him through the eyes of the chartmakers, artists, sculptors, builders and model makers who were his contemporaries.
