Presents the five-year response from re-measurements taken after the 1996 growing season in a project conducted to investigate tree and stand growth responses to thinning, and to nitrogen and phosphorus fertilization, in a mixed western hemlock/Sitka spruce ecosystem in the Queen Charlotte Islands. Two different fertilization levels and five different thinning levels were used in an incomplete factorial experiment in a completely randomized block design. Three hypotheses are analyzed by species and by all species combined: that treatments do not affect individual tree growth in diameter at breast height; that treatments do not affect stand growth in quadratic mean diameter, basal area per hectare, top height, and volume per hectare (total and merchantable); and that the initial proportion of western hemlock basal area in mixed stands does not affect treatment response.
