Instinct and Study is the fourth book of collaborations between Lebanese photographer Hanan Kazma and American poet Richard Leach. Kazma's images include abstracted self-portraits and urban walls and windows. Leach's poems written in response to them range from surreal free verse to rhymed lyrics. The book's title is a phrase from Herman Melville's poem "Art", which names the "unlike things" which must meet in order "to wrestle with the angel art."
