Is Kazakhstan on the way to becoming a middle power, as well as a middle corridor, a power that is placed between the superpowers but whose influence on them and the rest of the world is not negligible? Is the country capable of making the ambitious changes announced by Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Kazakh Republic? What will be required to enact President Tokayev's proposed broad-reaching political, economic and governance-related reforms - many of which can be characterized by a concrete and deliberate plan to free Kazakhstan from its dependence on natural resources and to chart a course toward sustainable and inclusive growth? This volume presents a series of essays that seek to address these important questions from various perspectives. In particular, the authors try to highlight the concrete policies and solutions that the country should consider implementing to enhance agriculture and economics; to strengthen internal and external politics; and to move towards social stability. These essays are meant to contribute to the debate within and beyond Kazakhstan about the country's changing role and to help make clear how in today's poly-crisis environment, Kazakhstan must follow the sustainability, stability, and prosperity path, moving forward.
