
Now that HIV/AIDS has grown to be epidemic in most countries, it is important that it is redefined as a social and developmental problem, rather than only as a medical issue. It is therefore necessary to influence the way in which HIV/AIDS is presented to the general public. The World Health Organization's Global Programme on AIDS emphasizes that more attention should be given to working through non-governmental organizations in this respect.In this book contributions from Indonesia, Mexico, Vietnam, Zambia and other countries show some of the problems that must be overcome and how AIDS can be portrayed not merely as a medical problem.
