It traces the artistic and commercial influences on Kozan's work and relates developments in Makuzu ware to the work of other major potters of the era to give a valuable insight into this formative transitional era in the history of Japanese ceramics. It is lavishly illustrated, with forty color plates and 100 black and white illustrations.
