Herbalism builds on the science of botany, to develop drugs or diet supplements for the maintenance of health, disease prevention and treatment. Herbal medicine is widely practiced in different parts of Asia and Africa. Essential oil extracts, salves, creams, lotions, etc. can be applied topically. Aromatherapy is also a herbal treatment and works through the direct inhalation of vapors.
