"On 10 May 1940, Germany attacked Belgium. In the following days, the Belgian state security started interning Germans living in the non-occupied part of the country, including pro-Nazi Belgians and Communists. All were deported to France. It is hardly known that the vast majority among them were Jews from Germany, Austria, Hungary, Poland etc., who had fled Nazi Germany in the thirties. Belgium clearly made no distinction. This publication follows the fate of these Jewish deportees from may 1940 onwards. Their lot gets merged with that of the Jews having fled Belgium in 1940-1942. From Drancy and elsewhere, some 6,000 Jews established in Belgium were deported between 1942 and 1944. Almost no one came back alive in 1945. Their names were forgotten, their faces had faded away. In this lavishly illustrated book, the Kazerne Dossin research team digs into the details of their story, backed by no less than 4,177 photographs which have been found again. The publication concludes with a comprehensive index of names."--Back cover.
