Charlotte (Charlie) Walker is just about fed up with her job in Toledo as an assistant to Peter Derch, a low-life private eye. While sitting in her car on yet another boring stakeout she receives a frantic call from her cousin, Izzy, back home in Crabapple Creek. A sobbing Izzy begs her to come home immediately. Charlotte caught only a few incoherent phrases - big trouble, dead body, jail, lose the café - but they were more than enough to send her scrambling to pack up her few belongs, her hyper dachshund, Rascal, and rush home to Crabapple Creek.

Upon arrival, Charlie finds things are worse than she thought – not only is Izzy the prime suspect in a murder, but she might lose her café as well.

Things get more complicated when an old friend returns to Crabapple Creek. The once nervous and shy boy she knew in Junior High is now a total hunk. But coming off a catastrophic relationship in Toledo, Charlotte has no intention of starting a romance.

Will Charlotte’s amateur skills she’s picked from working for a private eye be enough to find the real culprit? Will her cooking skills be enough to save Izzy’s cafe? Will she be able to resist the charming Cole Aston?

Or will she fail miserably on all three counts?
