As an eyewitness I presented here a new dimension of hurricanes, as a puzzling phenomenon. In all honesty, Ida was not a hurricane. It was a humongous greedy tornado disguised in the skirt of a lady hurricane.
I presented my personal experience with hurricane Ida and described my emotional and mental state during its vicious attack that was aimed at my neighborhood. After that I compared the people of Louisiana response to hurricanes and associated destruction and other people including Americans. Expanding the hurricane issue to other natural and manmade disasters I draw a comparison between different cultures in dealing with such devastating occurrences. The variance in culture does exist between people from different countries but can exist between people from the same race, nationality, belief, and economical status.
A question must strike the minds of people calling for an answer, regarding the reason for the occurrence of natural disasters of high destructive magnitude. There are a multitude of answers to such inquiry which ranges from the absurd to the logical. Some of those are presented leaving to the readers to draw their own conclusions.
Following an attempt to answer the question “why?” I follow that by determining what can be done about hurricanes. Hurricanes can be tamed, and their damage could be mitigated using existing technology. Not only that, but human can benefit from them. For sure an evolving tropical storm will benefit some areas along its path before it intensifies.
The major justifications for the reluctance to obliterate hurricanes as they develop are based on political and economic rationale. Politically, any long-term plan is rejected because the outcome may not show during the active life of a politician. Economically, if the monetary value of the losses including lives are less than the cost of implementation of a protective measure, the risk of damage and fatality becomes an economically viable option.
