Product Description Gives advice on purchasing hardware and software, and looks at modems, networks, computer memory, data base services, electronic mail, and future trends in telecommunications From Library Journal Of the several recent publications on telecommunications, this expensive paperback contributes little to our understanding of the subject. Despite its readable style, the book contains factual errors and redundancies. While its 18 chapters touch upon major issuese.g., hardware, software, networks, security, and the futurethere is an overemphasis on information utilities as well as unnecessary and confusing technical details about standards and protocols. Recommended instead: one or more of the many good books available on electronic mail, online information, and telecommunications, such as Elizabeth Ferrarini's Infomania ( LJ 1/86) or Ira Mayer's Electronic Mailbox (Hayden, 1985).
