To celebrate the Kunstmuseum's birthday we wanted to create something that would have a lasting effect : together with Julian Sartorius we came up with the idea of an acoustic tour of Thun. The acoustic work Thun Thun Thun hits the right note : Sartorius and his drumsticks recorded tracks at selected places so that they can then be heard in situ. So how can sounds be captured in a publication ? Can sounds be illustrated ? Using the frottage technique, images were created which can be understood as a metaphor for the artistic process. In addition to the body of the project, the surface finish plays an important role in the acoustic image. By using frottage, things such as gravel, advertising hoardings and bushes are transformed into abstract designs. Just like the process of securing evidence, the images transform the structures into something visual - when reading, the way the individual frottage images are arranged generates a new rhythm. Julian Sartorius represents a generation of artists who are firmly anchored in the region but always travelling abroad and producing interdisciplinary projects in various collaborative ventures. We are all the more delighted that his impressions of his home town will now resonate well into the future. As owners of a catalogue, you will have your own personal access to the acoustic work allowing you to discover it anew time and time again.
