L. M. Solon was an educated potter with an eclectic taste, whose own sophisticated porcelain was far removed from the humble early English pottery described in this book, and yet he was among the first to point out its aesthetic worth. His own collection of early English pottery was one of the first of its kind and this book, which was a pioneer on the subject is delightfully illustrated with his own drawings of pots from that great collection which was sadly dispersed in 1912.
