This report synthesizes research on ventilation & climate control and performance-based standards in new low-floor bus designs. Part 1 summarizes key findings of various bus ventilation & climate control tests with respect to make-up air, bus passenger area temperatures, driver area temperatures, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and the temperature impacts of door openings. Issues of concern are identified, primarily by comparing the test results to established standards. Part 2 first presents low-floor bus climate control system performance specifications guidelines which cover all of the equipment required to provide heating & ventilation (and optional cooling) of the bus, as well as the control of these functions for the comfort of all occupants. The last section of part 2 outlines specific test procedures that can be applied to ensure that a bus model meets the recommended specification guidelines.
