As a child, Dan Fields witnessed what no one of any age should have to see: the slaughter of cattle as part of the Emergency Drought Relief Program in 1934. He and his family pioneered West Texas in the early 1950's where they conquered the prairie, fighting, drought, sandstorms, and a multitude of advertisers. His legendary career includes farming, ranching, and cowboying. He operated a very successful cotton gin, earning the "Ginner of the Year" award in 1988. Cotton farmers call this award "the best damn ginner in Texas." Either title fits Dan Fields. Some stories in this, his first book, will make you laugh. Some will make you cry. All of these life stories reflect Mr. Fields' keen sense of history, his endless humor, and his constant willingness to serve, to befriend, to work, and to entertain.
