Amino acid side-chain packing arrangements are of major concern to any scientist interested in modelling protein interactions, including protein engineers, drug designers, molecular modellers, and crystallographers. These two volumes provide the first comprehensive reference to the 400 possible types of amino acid side-chain interactions observed in proteins of known three-dimensional structure. Each type of interaction has been statistically analyzed to provide valuable data relating to its favorability and stability. The data is presented both statistically as histograms and in the form of stereo plots, providing an invaluable source of information on the nature of the forces which hold proteins together.
