Harcourt Brace New Readers Activity Book 2 provides eight activity-based units (in black-line master format), one for each of the eight books in New Reader Set 2: City Boy, Country Cousin; Rescue Dog; Shuttle Mission; The Athlete; The House; The Twins; The Voice; and Treasure Dive. Like the New Readers themselves, the activities in each unit appeal to beginning-intermediate ESL/EFL students at upper elementary through high school levels. Each unit in the Activity Book has four activity pages: 1) A Pre-reading page engages students' interest in the New Reader and prepares them to read actively. 2) A Main Points page tests their understanding of key characters and events in the New Reader. 3) A Details page activates their recall of relevant vocabulary and story details. 4) An Extension page takes students beyond the New Reader -- to related themes or reader-based puzzles and games. Taken together, the activities in each unit will develop students' abilities in reading, writing, oral communication, and critical thinking. Activities require minimal supervision and can serve as seat work for pairs, small groups, or individuals, or as homework. In addition to the activities, Reader Summaries and an Answer Key add flexibility to the Activity Book and save teacher preparation time.
