The practice of medicine has been evolving rapidly over the past several decades. Twenty years ago, many hospi-tals still used paper medical records and hard-copy film for recording and storage of medical images. The appli-cation of computers to the practice of medicine has accelerated over recent years. The prevalence of computers in medicine is espe-cially notable in radiology, where images are stored and interpreted digitally, and most of a radiologist's workday is spent at a computer evaluating and report-ing on digital medical images. The book Practical Imag-ing Informatics provides an informative overview of the use of computers in radiology [2]. One area of radiology where computers have been markedly changing the way clinicians practice is the application of artificial intelli-gence (AI).
