This volume reports in four sections the most recent developments of treatments in anxiety disorders. The current well-elaborated, though partly controversial, behavioral, cognitive, psychophysiological, and biological concepts for treatment of anxiety disorders are carefully evaluated (Part I). Part II discusses results of the short- and long-term effectiveness of the respective treatment methods, their side effects, and failures. Promising new basic-experimental and clinical studies from twenty research centers in Europe, Australia, and the United States shed new light on the relevant behavioral and biological variables and mechanisms involved in the development (Part III) as well as in the course and outcome of anxiety disorders (Part IV).
