Ever since the golden age of painting in Denmark in the early 19th century, Realism has played a special role in northern European art. Painting together outdoors has been the main objective of the so-called North German Realists, a 'mobile temporary artists' colony' of sorts. Focusing on landscapes, still lifes, figure compositions, portraits, and nudes by 18 artists, this lavishly illustrated catalog stands as a first attempt to provide an overview as well as an assessment of this contemporary realist movement. 0Schloss Gottorf in Schleswig, Germany (26.05.-20.10.2013).
