In the wake of their father's passing, the orphaned Standish sisters appeal to their mother's wealthy friend, Lady Norwood, for help. But her stepson, Sir Richard, clearly suspects the sisters of unabashed fortune hunting. He accompanies Marguerite and Celia to Bath, where Lady Norwood has gone, and where Marguerite finds love, intrigue and murder.
