
Shortly after the War Between the States, a new bride, Nancy, takes on the care of another womanas child. Over the next fifteen years, she has eight children of her own, and they grow up in an atmosphere of love and joy, conflict and tragedy. Nancy and her husband, Dan, start a church in their small Kentucky community. Their children face war, romance, divorce, and near poverty, but their strength of family pulls them through these vicissitudes. There are many friends and neighbors who share their lives. Nancy lives a hundred years, the last fifteen in widowhood, always the guiding hand to her children and grandchildren.
