In the Black community families often say, “What happens in this house, stays in this house.” 5129 dares to tell the intricate, but true story of a black family living in Philadelphia, the six largest city in the United States. My name is Lawrence Jr., and my dad is Lawrence Sr. He is a laborer at Sun Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, Chester, PA. My mother, Dorothy, is a homemaker with the challenge of raising two sons, Edward, and myself. My relationship with my mother is good, while our relationship with my father is nothing short of tumultuous. Living in a big city like Philadelphia is extremely concerning to my mother. She’s always concerned about our safety and well-being. Sports will eventually become my saving grace. It will help develop my personality. Edward is my younger brother and my mother keeps him close to the vest. He has a completely different personality. She taught us to have a close relationship. Join us as we transition from West Philly to West Oak Lane and beyond.
