Author Description

<p>Salt Oracle is a collection of poems about the earth, the home, and the ancestral memory of the human body. It celebrates the connection of that body with the contents of its environment-with the body's movement and grace; with food that unfolds into generational tales; and with the dreams that, like memory, bridge the divide of human existence.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>Estrellas de mar</p><p>La espuma salada del mar</p><p>crece en las manos</p><p>humedeciendo los huesos ancestrales de mi especie.</p><p>Las manos se convierten</p><p>en el templo del rito sagrado, </p><p>ese rito que cada día lo repito</p><p>como si fuera un rito</p><p>que me devuelve la gracia</p><p><br></p><p>Starfish</p><p>The salty foam of the sea</p><p>grows in my hands</p><p>and dampens my ancestral bones.</p><p>My hands become a temple</p><p>for that sacred ritual</p><p>that I repeat daily</p><p>as if it were a rite</p><p>that returns me to grace</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>La mirada del águila</p><p>Sus ojos hablan el lenguaje de otros mundos, </p><p>los silencios eternos se hacen presentes</p><p>en el ave de la magia y del presagio</p><p>que aparece detrás del vidrio.</p><p><br></p><p>The Eagle's Gaze</p><p>Its eyes speak the language of other worlds;</p><p>the eternal silences emerge</p><p>in the bird of magic and prophecy</p><p>that appears behind the glass.</p><p><br></p>
