This workbook outlines & defines standardized eco-efficiency indicators that could help companies to set measurable ecological efficiency targets and facilitate comparisons between companies & business sectors. This workbook first discusses the need for indicators, their use by a company, and the reporting of indicators. It then provides definitions of the three core eco-efficiency indicators (for energy, waste, & water intensity) that were developed in a National Round Table on the Environment & the Economy program. It also includes definitions for several complementary indicators that are associated with the core indicators. Instructions & tables are provided for calculating each of the core indicators along with advice on calculating the complementary indicators. Working examples from a food plant and a coal-fired power plant are included for illustration.
