This initiative of the International Crime in Africa Programme (ICAP) at the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) is an excellent and timely publication that will serve as a practical guide for African lawyers on the role of defence counsel in the International Criminal Court. 'Bringing fairness to international justice' is a theme that is central to the role of defence counsel participating in international criminal proceedings. This handbook fills a gap and will, without doubt, be a useful and necessary tool, similar to the regular reports of the International Bar Association and Human Rights Watch, which critically and constructively monitor the ICC proceedings.
