Claude Monet's splendid gardens in Giverny abound with dazzling blossoms and graceful greenery, set off by the flash and dapple of his lily pond.Famous in their day but then seen by only a few, the gardens—like the gracious house they surround—were restored and opened to the public in 1980. An expert gardener herself, photographer Elizabeth Murray participated in the restoration and returns regularly to record the ever-changing beauty that inspired Monet.
