"The Sigg Prize is a biennial award that recognises outstanding practices of artists born or working in the Greater China region. The prize is a platform to highlight and promote on an international scale the important work and discussions taking place here. For this inaugural edition, an international jury has selected six shortlisted artists to participate in the Sigg Prize 2019 exhibition before the winner is announced in May 2020. The shortlisted artists are Hu Xiaoyuan (born 1977, lives and works in Beijing), Liang Shuo (born 1976, lives and works in Beijing), Lin Yilin (born 1964, lives and works in New York), Shen Xin (born 1990, lives and works in Minneapolis and Amsterdam), Tao Hui (born 1987, lives and works in Beijing), and Samson Young (born 1979, lives and works in Hong Kong). They encompass different generations and geographies and work across a range of mediums, including sculpture, site-specific installation, video, and performance. Their practices articulate clear perspectives on topics that defy easy categorisation, and the work featured in this exhibition addresses pressing questions that resonate across contexts."--West Kowloon events website (accessed 5/11/2020)
