Author Description

Claude Monet (1840–1926), central among French impressionists, is perhaps best known for his paintings of the water-lily pond in his gardens at Giverny. This body of work established him as the undisputed master of the interplay of reflections, shadows, aquatic plant life, and the surface of water. However, before Monet settled into this last series, he completed many other paintings of ocean, river, pond, and canal. Twelve sparkling examples of Monet’s waterscapes, including one from his water-lily series, have been selected for this calendar.
