This is the third annual review of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education. Results from the 2009 NAPLAN survey again show poor student and school performance, with many students failing to meet national minimum standards. This review examines the results in reading and numeracy, school attendance, curriculum, and national standards. It then discusses the underlying factors behind these performance levels and notes some initiatives that have been trialled in schools.
