It’s amazing how such a seemingly insignificant event can so profoundly alter the course of one’s life. Don Higgins has been plagued with paralyzing shyness for most of his life. He became increasingly isolated throughout his high school years. The lack of a girlfriend hurt the most. As an adult, he finally meets Karen and they plan to marry. In addition to his new found love, he also renews the Christian faith he was raised in but had long since left behind. All the pieces seemed to have fallen effortlessly into place. The way seems so clear. But a chance encounter causes Don to question it all. Is this the right path for him? Is this some sort of sign from God? Is this all meant to be? Or is he simply settling for the first thing that comes along? Set in the old textile mill town of Raymond, North Carolina, complications abound as race, religion and sex all factor into the story of the awakening of Don Higgins.
