Section 729 of the Companies Act 1985 requires the Secretary of State to prepare and lay before Parliament a general annual report of matters within the Companies Act. This report covers the period April 20021 to March 20032. It reviews the latest developments in company law including those originating from European Union legislation and accounts and auditing. It also reports on the activities of Companies House, Companies Investigations Branch of the Company Law and Investigations Directorate, and The Insolvency Service. The report is supplemented by statistical tables which provide, inter alia, details of registrations at Companies House and legal proceedings brought by the Department.
