The annual report of the Armed Forces' Pay Review Body provides independent advice and makes recommendations to the Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Defence on the pay and charges for members of the Services up to and including the rank of Brigadier (one star) and equivalents. In this year's report, military pay ranges for main ranks, and for groups on special and other pay scales, are recommended to increase by an overall 3.7 per cent with effect from 1 April 2001. Numerous other payments for specialist skills are covered, with the majority also being recommended a 3.7 per cent increase.
