In its first year ministers have established the Statistics Commission and appointed Len Cook as National Statistician. Includes planning of the census 2001, neighbourhood statistics initiative was launched, regional indicators of sustainable development were developed and a strategy for longitudinal date, a revised Standard Occupational Classification and new Socio-Economic Classification. The new Index of Service was published, regular publication of corporate services price indices were began and statistics on internet activity were developed. For the future a Code of Practice is being developed.
