This volume brings together the results of research and analysis conducted by the World Trade Issues Working Group from late 1999 through 2000, under the overall aegis of the Global Challenges & Opportunities Network. Part I contains papers reflecting on trade policy in the wake of the World Trade Organization ministerial conference at Seattle, 1999. Issues covered in this part include trade and coherence, the involvement of developing countries in multilateral trade negotiations, and the role of international organizations. Part II contains papers on trade liberalization, the inclusion of such issues as labour & environment into trade negotiations, and health policy. Papers in the final part discuss the case for a new round of trade negotiations, provide a horizontal analysis of a number of trade-related issues, and discuss the involvement of civil society in the trade policy process.
