The 1998 annual report on the state of transportation in Canada brings together, under one cover, a unique collection of data and observations on the use of the Canadian transportation system, its performance, its safety, its impact on energy consumption and the environment, and its contribution to the economy and the well-being of Canadians. This year's report is divided into three parts. The two chapters of Part A provide a context for the whole report. Part B looks at transportation from a sustainability perspective. Eight chapters cover key subjects related to sustainability - safety, environment, energy, regional economies, employment, trade, tourism and information and communication technology. Part C, the last part of the report, examines specific elements of the Canadian transportation system.
