
The objective of this study is to provide a profile & analysis of women, health, and well-being related to housing issues in the 1990s. After an introduction on the study & its methodology (literature review, key informant interviews, expert panels, & statistical analysis), chapter 2 reviews the findings of past research on women & housing. Chapter 3 presents a current demographic profile of women in Canada and examines some basics of housing economics & affordability as it relates to women. Chapter 4 studies the impact of housing on women's health & well-being (physical, psychological & social) with regard to housing choice, housing stability or security of tenure, discrimination, homelessness & emergency shelters, violence against women, participation & influence over the housing environment, sense of community & support networks, location of housing, quality of housing & maintenance, and women working in the home. The final chapter summarizes the findings and discusses policy implications. Appendices include a copy of a questionnaire used in the study and statistical tables.
